Abstractions of Absence

On its mostly shadowed half
the vibrant canvas
pales to black.

Abstractly
this means many things
to passers through the gallery:

death
the preference
looms to mind

though
there I find
the edge of space
outside my world

some trace of face

where brushstrokes vaguely memorize
the artwork of your absent eyes.
