Afloat

This cardboard box, some treasure chest:
no gleaming gems or gold to wrest

no tokens of unchecked expense
or artifacts of proud pretense

frayed wrappers, change, some pale receipt
a broken watch now obsolete

but here's my prize: her doting note
those words which keep this heart afloat.
