Artificial Easter Eggs
Ornamented, overclad,
enough to make a hatter mad,
they pranced about in Eastertide
brimming with such absurd pride,
pastel shells, a floral bunny,
severely trying to be funny,
ribbons, lace, fruit, and leaves,
little sign of who believes,
embellishing to entertain
their friends, at least, however vain,
a few aspiring to impress,
too many lost in fussy dress,
celebrating selves instead
of resurrection from the dead.
