Beyond the Darkness

See brightness breach the battle smoke,
revive terrain made faint by flames
of devastation scorched from war,

the same light shining as before
that climbs in time to point a way
or signify another day

- no, not the sun, my wide-eyed friend,
but that which shows up at the end
when all seems lost, torn by despair,

as desolation chokes the air
and fears blur nearly every scope:
I mean to say, the torch of hope!
