Blues Guitar

Elastic notes
ooze into grooves:

the bass begins to pace the stage

and drums
thump like
a busted
heart.

A guttural guitar recounts
that love gone wrong
so wrong

so long

its writhing tones lend sorrow song

those trills a stomach's butterflies
while melody sobs over lies

with dissonance
the goodbye kiss

then downward slides toward the abyss

where steel strings
strained out of tune
weep deepest
as vibrato swoons

till someone lost
calls one more round

and plaintive pitches hit the ground

but struggle up
to belt the tales

as rhythms slog
and guitar wails.
