Building the Ark of Love

Confusion floods then drowns the hours,
and anything we held was ours
splits and drifts off in the surge
of dread and doubt's most fervent urge
to perish in uncertainty.

An ocean of perplexity
swells and crashes reason's beach,
surpasses sandbags, soon will reach
these hills where lasting hopes retreat
and disbelief brings self-defeat

as answers sink behind the tide.
But now, with nowhere left to hide,
let's band together here, and fast,
preserve the future through the past,
recalling faith, how to survive,

believe we can and must revive
the beauty, justice, trust, and peace
that only thrives once we release
our eyes from color, hearts from hate,
all cause from warfare, choice from fate.

Why brood, presuming tragedy,
when we could use our unity
- our grace and ingenuity -
to craft an ark of love to save
our good world from an early grave?

Enlisting every empathy,
be conquered by love's need for peace.
Surrender.  Gather.  Plan to build.
We have the hammers, wood, and nails!
Assemble, friends, so truth prevails!
