Clarinet

With tightened eyes
and measured breaths
she animates
the hollow reed
as clarinet
quivers to trills
and spirals out
to solo sprung
from fuller score
defocused now.

Orchestral players
silhouettes
slurred to silence
as tones descend
like flakes that chill
the ungloved hand
(as sharp or soft)
to melt before
one grasps it all.
