Effaced

Those visages displaced and maimed,
vague effigies effaced, defamed:
they're chapters rent from history,
all ravaged beyond mystery.

These nameless souls we must recall
when shameless knaves proclaim their gall
to vanquish some identity,
which, one day, could be you or me.
