Freerway

These stoplights knows they cannot curb
that avenue from leaving town,
becoming freeway, interstate,
then veer off-road when time arrives
to surpass pavement, GPS,
repainted lines, all exits, maps,
without return, and swerve ahead
toward independence absent tread.
