Kite Flying

The sunlight strong, the breeze just right.
We held the wire, watched our kite:

it spun then sprung around the sky,
then, when the line snapped, it would fly!

Those seagulls must have been impressed,
the way it gripped the wind, possessed

as if intending to break free
and chase its dreams beyond the sea.
