League of Extraordinary Aspirers

Some years too late to be the first
yet young enough to be the best
Amelia watched the airships waft
above the bustling London streets
past windmills, steeples, wooden domes
beyond the smokestacks, hills, and homes
and swore she'd pilot one someday
around her county then the world
fly further, faster, fearless, free
accompanied by Sir Stanley
her humble trusty furry friend.

Together they'd amaze, ascend
wing forward toward historic fame
that misses christened in her name
would navigate those sapphire skies
to celebrate and recognize
such dreamers steam us to believe
there's little we will not achieve
once we've the mettle, spirit, cheer
to voyage past where others steer,
arising from our aerodrome
to sail wherever we may roam.
