Memento Mori

Foundational ennobled stone
dislodged, eroding, mostly thrown
by columns rocked,
demolished arches.

Kingless thrones.

No army marches.

Most sculptures sullied,
incomplete.

Triumphant structures
obsolete.

What once should outlive history
now slips
to myth
or mystery.
