Merlin's Tree?

One could wonder: might this be
the writhing kind of spellbound tree
where Merlin's snared in twisted bark,
condemned to this portentous dark?

Once Lady of the Lake learned all
his invocations, she would wall
this mythic wizard who foresaw
her bold betrayal with such awe

he readily endured this doom
- perhaps reborn within this womb
as legend, timeless, to survive
should Arthur, king, return alive.
