Metamorphosing Kafka

Young Gregorina wakes
     transformed

four wings, thin limbs,
     antennal head

yet nothing's
     strange:

relatives accept
    the change

and none suggest she
     rearrange.

She simply
     lives.

Poem inspired by Kafka's classic tale "The Metamorphosis,"

which develops and ends quite differently for its character, Gregor Samsa, who transforms into a repugnant bug, unlike Gregorina here, who appears to have become a butterfly.
