Our Dear Friend, Olaf

Embodiment of innocence,
abundant fount of joy,
so curious, in love with life,
forever friend,
no toy.

Small, brittle limbs,
yet you'll embrace -
without a second's pause -
the fires, even as you'd melt:
your selfless gift.  Applause!

At first, the clown,
not once the fool,
your humble quest: a grin.
Beside you, we should never lose
our hopes through thick and thin.

When sadness freezes
time in place,
your smiles thaw the ice.
One look, we're running through new snow,
and winter chills feel nice.

This fellowship
devalues gold,
blinds diamonds with its light.
No treasure measures up to our
noons of pure delight.
