Out of Character

Thrust on the stage at break of day,
unsure which part you're meant to play,
you wonder, searching for a cue,
then someone hands a script to you:

those lines they say you must recite
inside their blinding spot of light
- not as yourself, though, in disguise.

But you were born to improvise.
