Out of the Labyrinth, into the Light

We roamed too far and lost our home,
directionless, within a daze.

Beyond confusion, voices howled,
"Escape the madness of your maze!"

We curved, returned, reversed, and learned
we're nowhere close to getting out,

so, forward, backward, left, or right,
we strayed for days, around in doubt.

At some point, we would recognize
we went this way before, or twice.

We merely had to memorize
(not wander on like aimless mice)

and map the path - our history -
to be free of this misery,

then find our exit, at long last.
That's how we came to prize our past.
