Queen for More Than a Day

You dreamt of castles, masquerades,
ballroom waltzes, ruffled gowns,
tiaras fashioned out of gold,
a horse-drawn carriage,
sweet bouquets.

But none of this is what you got.

It turns out you don't care for dancing,
clothes too fancy or confined,
or anything to muss your hair.

The palace, horses, flowers--sure,
that would be something!

Yet your place
is quite the kingdom of its own,
so full of treasures you put there

and I'm right here (no prince, of course).

Who'd rather have some fairy tale,
not real love, accomplishments,
and prizes earned without a spell?

The actual is magical!

Let midnight pass! You're still my queen!
