The Struggle to Understand

My friend, should you suggest more civil wars,
first face the conflicts stirring in your thought:

well-meant intentions turning saboteurs,
subversive truths old doctrines long have fought,

rebellious impression versus sentiment,
persuasion and its troops of discontent.

Confront extreme beliefs on battlefields,
assessing weapons raw emotion wields.

Combat confusions through the nervous night.
Crusade for truth alone, not left or right.

Contend against invasive ignorance.
Drive out deceit and apathy. Advance

until reason and reaction have aligned
and you may reach some lasting peace of mind.
