Thay, the Teacher (In Memory of Thich Nhat Hanh)

The echoes of your lessons ring
within the chambers of our hearts

like school bells calling us to know
the moments hold our classes now,

and anyone can graduate
by simply learning how to breathe.

May we be mindful, as you taught,
how everything connects as one;

how peace is born before a thought,
or ends when we stray from some path;

how empathy could unify;
how mud loves lotus, lotus sun.

how life, our university,
prepares us for eternity

beyond the cycles of our plight.
May we be students, then enlight.
