To a New Seafarer

Familiar lands stand far from sight.
No map or compass guides you north.
No beacon lends a helpful light.
You must abide and journey forth!

Though raging waves delay your way
where barnacles may weigh you down
and things flowed clearer yesterday,
give nothing up and never drown!

While pirates, sharks, and storms draw near
and whispers hint of mutiny,
do not despair. Steer clear of fear!
Respect the weather and the sea.

Forget the sunken treasure tales,
but mind the icebergs and the whales.
Trust destiny itself prevails,
and thank the winds that fill your sails!
