Trevi Fountain

Grandeur grips, then columns bolster
majesty most mythical:

Corinthian-rich symmetries
cresting in triumphal arches

charged upon by chariots
as Oceanus oversees,

new tempests welling in his waves
while heaving steeds rear up to lunge

and Tritons tensely rein them in
this raging frame of ancient pomp

where tourists pour to photograph
or plunder purses, pockets, pants,

obliged to clutch at least three coins
and sling them into whirlpool dreams.
