Unlaced

Two shoes, then four, plus many more
washed up along untrodden shore
in sundry styles of one size.

Within three weekends, our surprise
evolved to questions - why and who
would fling these heels in the blue?

Our answer: dainty footprints found
above the boardwalk, up around
a beach house newly painted pink,

its owner, sipping from her drink,
retired here, beside the sea,
to live barefoot and fancy-free.
