Warhorse Riders in Vertigo

On carousels of wars we rode,
stampeding on undying steeds
adorned in stately gild and gloss,
while we encircled glassy castles,
where, at times, we’d see ourselves
reflected in divided mirrors
catching battles and the blurs
of world gone wrong and round again:
the carnival of flashing lights,
parades of prizes, circus music,
screams behind the swirling smoke
intensifying vertigo,
until bits slipped from horses' jaws
and we no longer reined our cause.
